I am gathering that the overall themes of the city include industrialisation, deindustrialisation, rejuvenation, etc. I have a more thorough understanding of the city, especially in the aspect of deindustrialisation and how politics played a role. At the beginning of the tour, I didn’t realise how much of an effect Thatcherism had on the city of Sheffield and even after, how hard the city has tried to re-invent itself. The art of the city stands out a lot, as that is a means of creating a new image. Perhaps to appeal to younger people as Sheffield is going from a working class city, to a very student and university based society, which is an understanding I had only developed during the tour.
